STONEBROOK ESTATES WATER & WASTEWATER SYSTEMS

The City of Hamilton, through its amalgamation, has assumed a default agreement that was originally entered into with a developer and the former Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth. The development, which is known as Stonebrook Estates, is located within the City of Hamilton municipal boundaries and utilizes a non-municipal residential communal water and wastewater system.  The developer made an application to the City for provision of two additional developments in this community.  The City had retained DLW Engineering Services Limited to review the existing water and wastewater system and its compliance with MOE design guidelines for the current development and to further assess the additional requirements to facilitate the new developments.  Subsequently, Streetwise Capital Partners Inc. retained DLW to design and administer the contract for the water and wastewater upgrades for the second development phase.

The communal water system includes a well-based water supply system complete with GUDI wells, well houses, treatment system comprising of pressure filters, ultraviolet disinfection followed by chlorination, as well as potable water and fire water reservoirs and separate potable water and firewater distribution networks.  The communal wastewater system includes a pressurized sewer system leading to an advanced secondary treatment plant with nitrification followed by subsurface discharge through a tile field.

GLOBAL FURNITURE WWTP

Global Furniture’s electroplating facility was equipped with a wastewater treatment facility which was outdated and was experiencing operational difficulties.  Global Furniture retained DLW Engineering Services Limited to review the existing wastewater treatment facility and design and administer the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility.

DLW completed the condition assessment of the existing wastewater treatment facility to determine the treatment requirements for the process waste and to determine the most cost-effective treatment methodology that would address these issues.  DLW then completed the design and administered the construction contract for the new wastewater treatment facility.  The design included new chemical storage and feed equipment, chemical reaction tankage followed by clarification and cartridge filtration with integrated process control system.  The work included extensive consultation with the City of Toronto.

MAJESTIC ESTATES SEWAGE SERVICING

DLW Engineering Services Limited was retained by Majestic Estates Inc. to provide design and contract administration services for a new sewage pumping station in the Town of Oakville to service the Majestic Estates Residential Subdivision.  The pumping station was to pump to the existing Shorewood Sewage Pumping Station located on the adjacent development.  After completing the function design of this facility, it was determined that the sewage flow from this development could flow by gravity to the existing Shorewood SPS.  Thus, the project was revised to include the upgrades to the existing Shorewood SPS.
